Bourjois Happy Light Matte Serum Primer [Review]

Anything having description having word 'Matt' in it, instantly grabs my attention. I've been using Bourjois Happy Light Matt Serum Primer for quite sometime. It's a hit or miss for me? Lets find out my thoughts about it.

My Verdict

Bourjois Happy Light Matt Serum Primer comes in two variants- Matte and Luminous. Luminous Serum Primer best for dry skin and Matt Serum Primer is best for normal/combination/oily skin. I am always in hunt for mattifying primer being an oily so I was having high hopes when I got my hands on it and love the happy sign beneath Happy Light fonts. It comes in a 15 ml glass pump bottle which is sturdy and travel friendly. I'd rather prefer plastic pump bottle or handy squeezable tube to avoid any breakage and light weight.

As my skin is super oily I never skip my makeup primer prior applying foundation to combat the sebum and oil production and stretch the wear time of my foundation. Happy Light Matt Serum Primer has a light weight and almost gel like consistency which appears peachy in the bottle. The formula is has the texture of gel like serum that melts into the skin seamlessly without any difficulty and it goes colorless on the skin and has not got any brightening or illuminating properties to brighten up the face. It can be used underneath the foundation for creating a flawless smooth base for your foundation or on its own as it feels refreshing once applied on the skin because it is something in between primer and moisturizing serum.

As the texture is gel like you just need a small amount to cover your face. Once the primer is set, it leaves my skin subtle, smooth with such natural matte finish by minimizing my pores and fine lines. That being said, its non-pore blocking and has no comedogenic formula which is non drying and dermoligically tested and I do believe it's true as I've been using this product for over four weeks and it didn't break me out. On the other note, what I love the most about it is, it gives a nice flawless canvas for the creating smooth, supple base for foundation application.

Overall, this is a good primer if you want to have your foundation looks blended and flawless and that minimizes the appearance of pores and fine lines and mattify your skin. You must get your hands on it.

You Might Like It

  • You have normal/oily skin.
  • You want your foundation get blended flawlessly.
  • You expect it to minimize your pores/fine lines.
  • You want your foundation to stay longer on your skin.
  • You expect it to give you a matte finish.

You Might Not Like It

  • You have dry skin.
  • You expect it to be dewy.
  • You expect it to be hydrating.
  • You don't like matte finish.
  • You may find it pricey for the quantity.

My Rating

Bourjois Happy Light Matte Serum Primer is priced £10.99 and can be purchased from Boots or Bourjois counters. Folks in Pakistan can get Bourjois products from BeautyArena.pk or Bourjois counters nationwide. However, Happy Light range is not yet released in Pakistan.

What do you think about it? Have you tried anything from Happy Light collection?

  3. Seriously! Anything matt grabs my attention too! I have tried several primers but not everything suits my skin. I have finally settled for smashbox photofinish but I do not get it here in Belgium. So, whenever I am travelling I have to stock up. I will give this a try. Does this feel heavy? Have you used the smashbox one? How do you compare them?

  4. I prefer to look dewy because I find my skin looks 'flat' when it's completely matte. That's why I tend to get 'normal' primers or ones that promise to give me a dewy finish. Sometimes I'll end up looking a little too shiny, but it's okay because I'd rather be shiny than have my skin look dry and dull. It's much easier to blot and powder away some of the shine compared to trying to make dry skin look glowing and fresh!

  5. I don't always use primers on my face, mostly cos it's oily and I don't want to clog it up more by applying an additional layer on my face, but since you say it's non pore blocking, I might consider getting this :) Thanks for your review dear!

  8. I really prefer matte finishes to those that are more dewy because my skin tends to be on the oilier side of "normal." I use other products to hydrate my skin, so the fact that it isn't extra-hydrating is cool with me. I think I'll definitely be checking this one out! :)

  17. I have been using a primer for a few months now and love how much easier my other make-up applies. It also helps to smooth and find flaws.

  22. You and I are exactly the same, anything with Matt I get absolutely curious hahaha. Not sure why, but it seems that it's becoming my favorite finishes makeup wise. I have never tried any foundation by Bourjois - I did get curious when they released a BB cream which was like a bronzer o.O I know… LOL. If I try this primer, it probably will be for the summer season, my skin gets absolutely try as the desert during the winter if I'm not looking after it properly.

P.S. love the new look of your blog! xx

  65. I am not into make ups. The last time I have tried is a BB cream but I have to stop since I have frequent breakouts. I have oily skin and maybe the brand I chose don't suits me. Anyway, thank you for this review and I'll try to look for this product here.
